VDV Version 4.5 Released - Oct 8, 2008

Vista Data Vision 4.5 has been released.  Version 4.5 contains many new features as well as numerous improvements.

Report toolkit
The Report Toolkit allows users to create Report summaries. The Reports can be generated as a delimited text file document and/or as a Microsoft Word document.   Select variables to include in the Report and which summary action to perform (average, max, min, sum).
The Reports can be generated automatically and sent as email to a group of contacts, for example create a month report on the 1st of each month or create a year report on January 1st.
The Report Toolkit greatly simplifies the process of creating summary reports from logged data.  System Administrators can add a valuable service to their customers by automatically creating and sending them weekly/monthly/yearly report.

New Graph reports
Overlay Graph: Allows users to quickly compare different time periods for a selected variable.  This allows users to spot trends or deviations.
Displacement Graph:  Useful to plot Tilt Profiles and similar measurements where several sensors are installed along a path.  Displacement graph is perfect for displaying axial compression and deformation.

Notes
Notes is a web based feature that allows Users to store diary records and connect them to Sites and Variables.
Users can only view/edit/delete Notes that are connected to Sites that they have access to.

Alarm Toolkit Updated
Two new features have been added to the Alarm Toolkit.
Users can now choose whether or not to send a Alarm Message when an Alarm goes off.
Users can now also define a delay for each variable being monitored for Alarms. The User selects a delay in minutes that the alarm must be active until an alarm is triggered.  The delay is only used when a alarm goes from the Off position to ON position (LowLow, Low, High, HighHigh), there is no delay when an Alarm goes off or when an Alarm changes between Alarm Levels (Low to LowLow or HighHigh to High).
A problem was found in the serial communications with when sending a SMS/Text Message Alarm Message with a cell phone.  This problem has been fixed in version 4.5.

Viewing/Displaying Data
Dual Y-Axis: Graphs can now be created with Dual Y-Axis.
Rolling Average:  Display variables in graphs with a smoothing effect.  Each variable in a graph can be configured to be displayed with a Rolling Average, making each data point a average of the previous X points and the post Y points.
Right Click:  To show only a single plot on a graph and hide all others Users can now use Right Click.
Resize:  db.data.browser can now be resized allowing Users to utilixe their monitor size to view graphs in more detail.

Web Maps Updated
Web Maps can now show the Data Update Alarm status.  Web Map Area Link is a new feature that allow users to create nested Web Maps.  With this feature Users can for example create a overview Web Map with general data from many sites and then with Area Links allow Users to click on a hotspots on the Web Map to open a different Web Maps showing each Site in more detail.

File Management
Backup dat files: Data Files may be located in different folders on a local machine or even spread out over several network computers.  To easily backup selected Data files into a single folder users can use the Backup Data Files function in VDV.
Split dat files: Split Data Files allows users to automatically split data files into year or month files, preventing them from increasing in size indefinitely.
Backup files are stored under /vdv_data_backup/ in the same folder as the original data file.

See the ChangeLog for complete list of new features and improvements from version 4.01.
